CITADEL Wins the 'Midnight Audience Award" During the World Premier at SXSW 2012

We have even more good news to report from our Scholarship winner Brian Coffey, Sigma Films and their new partners Blinder Films.

The latest creation CITADEL, an Irish/Scottish horror film, premiered at SXSW festival this month and picked up the "Midnight Audience Award". This obviously caught the eye of a range of theatre and entertainment groups, but it was Cinedigm and New Video who secured the U.S distribution rights for Citadel.

The world famous SXSW festival in Austin, Texas was in full swing this past weekend, and in amongst the exciting new productions from emerging film makers, was one from our very own scholarship winner, Brian Coffey.

Last month Brian attended the Berlinale as part of The Cutty Sark Film Scholarship. He used this opportunity to raise the profile of his production company Sigma Films and their latest film CITADEL.

Brian looks back at his time in Berlin:

"The one thing nobody warns you about, yet as soon as you return home everyone wants to talk to you about, is the inevitable cold that everyone catches while at a festival that then hits you like a ton of bricks as soon as your plane touches down. 

I can only think that this cold is a result of the lack of sleep I have been suffering, due to the late nights and early morning meetings in Berlin...

The First Scholarships Winner of 2012 Announced

After receiving a great deal of strong applications from a wide range of talented individuals, we are proud to announce our first Cutty Sark Film Scholarship winner of 2012 - Brian Coffey.

Brian is a producer for Sigma Films, a leading film production agency based in Glasgow. Sigma  have worked on a number of productions including Perfect Sense, Donkeys, Red Road, Young Adam and Hallam Foe.

On Thursday June 23rd, Cutty Sark and EIFF launched Bike Powered Cinema, screening the film Belleville Rendezvous 5 times over the course of the day.

Cutty Sark, together with the Centre for the Moving Image (CMI), is excited to announce a short film competition!

Named after the famous tea Clipper, Cutty Sark has always had a sense of adventure and a pioneering spirit at its heart. It's this personality of the brand - The Spirit of Adventure - that we are looking for contestants to capture in a 60-90 second short film.
