Capture the ‘Spirit of Adventure’ through Film
The award winning Cutty Sark Blended Scotch Whisky, in partnership with Centre for the Moving Image (CMI), is delighted to announce an exciting short film competition!
The Whisky:
Cutty Sark, one of the Top 10 blended Scotch whiskies in the world, was created in 1923 to challenge the whisky convention of the time and pioneered a new easy drinking, smoother style of whisky. Created specifically for cocktails and mixing, it became an instant classic.
Named after the famous tea Clipper, Cutty Sark has always had a sense of adventure and a pioneering spirit at its heart. It is this that we are looking for contestants to capture.
The Brief
Entrants are asked to depict the personality of Cutty Sark, The Spirit of Adventure, in a 60-90 second short film. Each short film will be considered to be one film for the purposes of the competition. The judges are looking for films which fuse the sociable nature of Cutty Sark with the sense of adventure which lies at the heart of the brand. Any adventure, however great or small, can be portrayed – it doesn't need to be in the most extreme destination or climate.
Cutty Sark is predominantly consumed in bars and clubs across Southern Europe by men and woman in their twenties and thirties. Submissions should look to convey this energy and sociability in an original and creative way.
Entrants should familiarise themselves with the brand’s philosophy and this ethos should underpin each submission as it will form part of the judging criteria.
The Judging
A shortlist of films will be selected by a panel of judges, including representatives from the CMI and Cutty Sark plus others.
These films will be showcased during the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2012 ("EIFF 2012") and on the Festival and Cutty Sark Blended Scotch Whisky websites. The final winner will be selected and announced in June 2012. Please see the terms and conditions below for further details.
The Prize:
The successful filmmaker will win a £5,000 commission from Cutty Sark to develop part of the ongoing global visual communications for the whisky. This will involve liaising with the Cutty Sark marketing team and design agencies during the commissioning process. The winner will receive the Prize in a one-off payment within 30 days of the winning film being announced.
